HOW I DREW FABRIZIA of "COSA MI METTO???"

THIS IS MISS FABRIZIA.
She gave me the permission to illustrate her. :)
Don't believe me? Click HERE and see the comments! :) hehehe

OK.. so I have received a few emails asking me how I drew my illustrations. Here in this post I WOULD LIKE TO SHOW YOU STEP BY STEP how I draw.
And in no way am I claiming I'M GOOD AT MY ILLUSTRATIONS. I honestly believe I AM NOT AN EXPERT AT THIS AND I HAVE SO MUCH TO LEARN MYSELF. I am a PAINTER and that's what I do professionally. But I don't know why, whenever I pick up a pencil, I end up drawing fashion!
So here I want to make clear I am showing you how I draw, AND THAT IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM SHOWING YOU HOW TO DRAW! :)

If you are willing to learn from this post, then by all means, FEEL FREE to do so. I know I have lived with some of the tips I'm about to give you through out my life and I AM STILL APPLYING it on my everyday life!
So ENOUGH BLA BLA BLA

MISS FABRIZIA

Sorry about the photo! I can not take a good pic even if my life depended on it! :)

1. Sketch is messy, fast and light!
So here I outlined, really quickly and really lightly with a 2b pencil the figure. More like a guideline. So I know everything is in proportion! I know, i know, the whole body should fit in the page, but sometimes I leave my works unfinished.

2. KNOW WHERE THE DARK TONES ARE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY KNOW WHERE THE LIGHT SOURCE IS. ALWAYS!!!!!
With the same pencil I roughly fill in the dark tones first.
DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR FIGURE A CENTIMETER OR A MILLIMETER AT A TIME, LOOK AND WORK AT THE PAGE AS A WHOLE. So that you know how it will look like before your pencil even finishes.
HAVE FUN!!!
DO NOT BE SCARED TO MAKE MISTAKES  AND DO NOT USE YOUR ERASER TOO MUCH! So you have a guideline where you made that mistake and do not do again.. erase later!

3. LIGHT DARK, DARKEST!
Now for the pencil 4b! Make the dark areas, even darker and fill in a little more details. REMEMBER WHEN YOU ARE COPYING OFF A PIC OR DRAWING A STILL LIFE IN FRONT OF YOU, YOU SHOULD LOOK MORE AT SUBJECT not at your paper and without stopping!!! DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR WORK TOO MUCH!!

4. FINALLY MISS FABRIZIA TAKES SHAPE! In 15 minutes :)
I do not take a whole lot of time illustrating .. I don not know why.
My teacher back in Greece once told me that when you're drawing someone and it doesn't turn out to look like them, that's when you know you have STYLE, that's when you know your work is a success. Because if your work does not resemble who you draw, it resembles HOW YOU FEEL! And that's when it's ART
OH ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND YOU. SMUDGING IS REALLY A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR LAZY DRAWING. SO PLEASE TRY NOT TO SMUDGE!!!!  :)

WELL I HOPE YOU ALL LEARNT A THING OR TWO!
KISSES DARLINGS!
